Choosing Love, Peace, and Joy over Being Right in Marriage

Marriage is a lovely union between two people who make a lifelong commitment to their love, adoration, and respect for one another. But it’s no secret that relationships between people with different origins, personalities, and religious beliefs may be difficult. There will inevitably be differences of opinion, and at times it may be challenging to do so. What do you decide in those circumstances? Being right or happy?

Tara Durotoye, an entrepreneur in the Nigerian beauty industry, and her husband, Fela Durotoye, recently commemorated their 22nd wedding anniversary. Fela wrote on social media that although their road had not been simple, they had discovered the importance of choosing love, peace, and joy over right and wrong. It conveys a loud message about how important it is to put your marriage’s health and happiness before winning a debate.

What do you want to achieve when you argue with your spouse if you think about it? Do you want to settle the matter and come up with a solution that works for both of you or do you want to demonstrate your point of view? It’s simple to lose sight of the fact that the person you’re arguing with is your partner, your better half, and the person you made a pledge to love and adore when you’re in the heat of the moment. Take a step back during those times and keep in mind the reason you started out as a couple.

Being right at the expense of happiness can cause resentment, rage, and hurt sentiments. Both sides may feel as though they are not being heard or understood in the resulting poisonous environment. Understanding that compromise and communication are critical components of a happy and successful marriage is crucial. When you decide that your partner’s happiness comes before your own, you establish a secure environment where both of you may express yourself without worrying about being judged.

Although marriage is not always simple, it is worthwhile to work for. It is a powerful reminder that our connections matter more than being correct when we choose love, peace, and joy. It wasn’t simple, but as Fela Durotoye put it, “I’m glad Tara and I learned to choose love, peace, and joy over who is right.” Decide carefully the next time you and your partner are at odds by asking yourself, “Do I want to be right or happy?”

By the way, we won’t be leaving you to get ready for the week without giving those pesky eyes something to look at. Check out the cute images below and keep your “God when” hopes alive.
