Burna Boy made history at the 2024 GRAMMYs as the first Nigerian artist to perform. “City Boys” took center stage before transitioning seamlessly into a captivating rendition of “Sitting On Top Of The World,” where Brandy showcased her stunning vocals. This collaboration marked a memorable moment at the GRAMMYs, with Burna Boy making history as the first Nigerian artist ever to perform at the prestigious event.

Burna Boy entered the 2024 GRAMMYs with four nominations, showcasing his diverse musical talent. Nominations included Best Global Music Album (“I Told Them…”), Best Global Music Performance (“Alone”), and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Sittin’ on Top of the World”). Additionally, he received a nod in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category (“City Boys”). Notably, Burna Boy had previously won the Best Global Music Album for his 2020 LP “Twice as Tall,” making him the first male Nigerian artist to achieve this honor.

As a key figure in Afro-fusion, Burna Boy’s influence extends from Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti to American hip-hop and R&B. His album “I Told Them…” featured collaborations with artists like J. Cole, GZA, RZA, and 21 Savage. The album debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums chart, marking his first chart-topping album and a groundbreaking achievement for international Afrobeats artists. Burna Boy continued to make history with the first-ever headline performances in a US stadium at Citi Field and a UK stadium at London Stadium in 2023. His journey reflects a series of remarkable firsts, establishing Burna Boy as a global music icon.
