Multichoice Nigeria and Africa Magic unveiled the nominees for the 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) on March 24. Now we will be looking into nominees who are being nominated for the first time. This esteemed annual event honours remarkable accomplishments in television, film, entertainment, and now in digital content creation within Nollywood and the wider African content sphere. Standout films such as “Over The Bridge,” “Mami Wata,” and “Breath Of Life” have emerged as leading contenders among the nominated movies.
The 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has announced its nominees, including several first-time nominees. Among them are Tana Adelana, Layi Wasabi, and Ejiro Onojaife, who have all made their mark in their respective fields.
Here are the first-time nominees for the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) who are making a significant impact in their respective fields:
Layi Wasabi
Layi Wasabi, a filmmaker, received a nomination for Best Digital Content for his work “Medical Negligence and Copyright Infringement.” This is his first AMVCA nomination, and he is recognized for his contributions to the digital content space.
In the film “Medical Negligence,” Layi Wasabi portrays a lawyer assisting a woman in seeking legal redress for medical malpractice, highlighting the intricacies of the legal system. Additionally, in “Copyright Infringement,” Layi Wasabi speaks of intellectual property rights within the music industry, shedding light on the challenges of copyright infringement.

Tana Adelana
Tana Adelana, a well-known actress, made her acting debut in the TV series “Disclosure” and has since appeared in numerous films. She has won several awards, including the On-Air Personality of the Year (TV) at the Future Awards Africa in 2011, a City People Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2017, and a Best Actress in a Lead Role (English) win at the Best of Nollywood Awards in 2018.
Her role as the mother of Oby in Kunle Afolayan’s “Ijogbon (The Chaos)” earned her her first AMVCA nomination.
Ejiro Onojaife
Ejiro Onojaife, a talented actress, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Origin: Madam Koi Koi.” This is her first AMVCA nomination, and it highlights her exceptional acting skills.
David Ezekiel
David Ezekiel gained recognition for portraying Abbey, Oyin’s lover, in Moses Inwang‘s film “Blood Vessels.” His depiction of a character entangled in a turbulent relationship and facing the wrath of Oyin’s father due to their affair and pregnancy earned him a nomination for Best Lead Actor at the AMVCAs.
Adaobi Dibor
Nominated for Best Lead Actress at the AMVCAs, Adaobi plays Oyin in “Blood Vessels.” Oyin, Abbey’s girlfriend, finds herself facing the wrath of her enraged father after an unexpected pregnancy.
Levi Chikere
Levi Chikere, known for his singing and acting talents, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for playing Legbe in “Blood Vessels.”
In the movie, he’s one of six young people running away from a town wrecked by oil pollution and political chaos. They sneak onto a ship loaded with stolen crude oil, starting a dangerous journey across the Atlantic Ocean, unaware of the risks ahead.
Demola Adedoyin
Demola Adedoyin, known for his lead roles in hit movies like “October 1,” “The Bridge,” and “King of Boys,” is a well-established figure in acting, praised for his versatility.
In “Breath of Life,” produced by Eku Edewor, he played young Timi, a gifted man who relocates to Nigeria in the 1960s with his family, only to face tragic upheavals. His compelling performance earned him his first AMVCA nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Ropo Ewenla
Ropo Ewenla, a broadcaster, culture consultant, and producer, has taken on diverse roles in films. He portrayed Dr. Grillo in “Citation,” an Officer in “Cordelia,” and lent his voice to Asohun Oba (the King) in “Anikulapo” and its sequel “Anikulapo: The Rise of the Spectre.” His portrayal of Ayorode in “Over The Bridge” marked his first AMVCA nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
The AMVCA, which was first held in 2013, is an annual accolade presented by Multichoice that recognizes outstanding achievements in television and film across Nollywood and the broader African content landscape.
