Afrobeats artist Rema has revealed that the lyrics of his 2019 hit song “Dumebi” were largely made up of nonsensical words.

Signed to Jonzing World under Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, Rema shared that he was encouraged to release the track before completing the full lyrics.

In an interview with CNN, Rema, known for his song “Calm Down,” explained that he turned 16 bars of gibberish into “Dumebi” with the help of D’Prince, Don Jazzy’s brother and head of Jonzing World.

Rema said, “I was just vibing, being free with my music,” and added that it was clever to create a song that made people dance to words that didn’t really exist.

Released on March 24, 2019, “Dumebi” was the third single from his debut EP “Rema” and became one of his biggest hits before “Calm Down.”
