Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage recently had a heartfelt chat with media personality Joey Akan on Afrobeats Intelligence. She talked about her music journey, being a mum, and what it’s really like working in the music industry.

Tiwa, known for her strong voice and stage presence, opened up about something many don’t know: she started her music career later than most, and looking back, she says it was a blessing.

At first, it didn’t feel like one, but with time, she realized it helped her focus and grow the right way. “I was very intentional about keeping my career going. Starting late was a blessing, even though I didn’t see it that way then,” she shared.

She also talked about her son and how she’s careful not to push him into music just because she’s famous. “I’ve seen kids whose parents are great musicians, but the kids don’t have that natural talent. I don’t want my son to feel like he has to do music because of me,” Tiwa said.

Tiwa believes that if music is truly meant for him, he’ll find his way there on his own. “If it’s really what he’s meant to do, he’ll discover it himself. Then I can step in and support him. I want him to walk his own path, because this music life is not easy.”

She also got real about the mental struggles artists face. “Being an artist is hard mentally. Sometimes, people think you’re making loads of money, but you’re not. Still, you have to act like you are, just to keep up the image,” she said.

Tiwa explained how artists are always under pressure to look rich and perfect, even when things aren’t going well. “You’re constantly being judged. People have opinions about everything you do. So you either have to be thick-skinned from the start or learn to be over time.”

Her honest words remind us that fame isn’t always as shiny as it seems, and behind the glitz, many artists deal with real struggles.
