If you love Tems‘ voice and can’t stop playing her songs, there’s more to be excited about. Tems just started something amazing called The Leading Vibe Initiative.
It’s a project that will help women in Africa who want to work in music, not just as singers, but also as songwriters, music producers, and sound engineers.
This project is close to Tems’ heart. She didn’t have anyone to guide her when she started her music career. She taught herself and made it on her own. Now, she wants to help other young women do the same.
Announcing the initiative on Instagram, Tems wrote:
“Today, I’m so proud to launch The Leading Vibe. From my self-taught journey with no roadmap, I created this initiative to support African women in music, those breaking barriers, building boldly, and leading the next wave.”
The first event will happen in Lagos, where Tems grew up. It’s going to be a two-day program happening on August 8 and 9. It’s open to Nigerian women between the ages of 18 and 35.
During the event, they’ll learn from top professionals in the music industry through workshops, panel talks, and special training sessions. They’ll also get to use real tools and meet people who can help their careers grow.
Tems said that even though Nigeria’s music industry is growing fast, there still aren’t many women working behind the scenes. She wants that to change.
She started this project for women who dream big, want to do something different, and just need a chance to shine.
The best part is that she’s not stopping in Lagos. Tems plans to take The Leading Vibe Initiative to other parts of Africa too.
