There are some couple looks that make you pause for a second, and Mo Bimpe and Lateef Adedimeji’s latest appearance is certainly one of them. The Nollywood couple stepped out in coordinated burgundy looks for the grand thanksgiving celebration following the arrival of their triplet sons, and the result was every bit as regal as the occasion called for.
The couple welcomed their three boys earlier this year, later revealing their names as Rahman, Raheem and Rakeeb during an intimate naming ceremony. Lateef had announced that a larger thanksgiving celebration would follow, allowing family, friends, fans and well-wishers to join them in celebrating the blessing.
For the occasion, Lateef kept things traditional and commanding in a deep burgundy agbada, finished with intricate white embroidery across the shoulders and a striking motif running down the back. He completed the look with a matching embroidered cap, allowing the rich colour and elaborate detailing to do most of the talking.
Mo Bimpe, meanwhile, brought a softer but equally dramatic interpretation of the colour. Her burgundy ensemble featured a fitted, embellished bodice with floral appliqué details, dramatic pleated layers and a flowing skirt that extended into a statement train. The dimensional detailing gave the look plenty of texture, while the red tones tied beautifully into her husband’s outfit without making the two looks feel overly matched.
Her accessories also deserve a moment. From the statement earrings to the rings and carefully styled gele, every element contributed to the polished finish. Even the floral embellishments on her outfit added a playful contrast to the richness of the burgundy fabric.
What makes the couple’s styling particularly effective is that they did not try to make their outfits identical. Instead, they worked within the same colour story while allowing each person to retain a distinct silhouette and personality. Lateef’s agbada delivers the grandeur traditionally expected from a special Nigerian celebration, while Mo Bimpe’s fitted, heavily embellished look brings a more contemporary fashion sensibility to the occasion.
And burgundy was a particularly fitting choice. The deep wine shade has a naturally luxurious quality, making it an easy choice for an event where celebration, tradition and glamour all come together. Against the warm neutral backdrop of their portraits, the colour stands out even more, giving the photographs an almost editorial quality.
This is also another reminder that coordinated couple dressing does not have to mean wearing the same thing. A shared colour palette, complementary embroidery and thoughtful styling can create a much more sophisticated result, especially for weddings, Thanksgiving celebrations and other major Nigerian social events.
For Mo Bimpe and Lateef, however, the fashion was only part of the story. After welcoming three sons and celebrating their names privately, this was a moment centred on gratitude and family. The couple’s outfits simply gave the celebration the visual grandeur it deserved.
And judging by these portraits, they certainly understood the assignment.
