Netflix’s first African original series, “Queen Sono,” will not be coming back for a season 2.

Netflix made this known in an announcement that it’s canceling “Queen Sono.” South African media house Channel 24 revealed that “due to a complex set of production challenges brought on by among other things, season 2 won’t be taking place.”

What to know about Queen Sono — The series, Queen Sono (Pearl Thusi), follows a story of a well-trained spy who is committed to protecting the people of Africa. However, in one of her missions, she discovered the cause of her mother’s death which leads her on a quest to uncover the truth. The series was written and created by Kagiso Lediga. You can watch season 1 on Netflix.

In a statement, Netflix said :

We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with season 2 of Queen Sono. A huge thank you to our fans across the world for the love shared for our first African Original series.

Netflix is also grateful to the amazing efforts shown by cast and crew for their stellar efforts in creating this show for our members around the world. We’ll continue to work closely with South Africa’s creative industry to keep producing more compelling ‘Made-in-South Africa’ stories.
