Grammy-winning Nigerian music star, Damini Ogulu, famously known as Burna Boy, is once again making headlines—not for a chart-topping hit, but for a deeply personal revelation.
In a recent post on the official Instagram page for his upcoming album, No Sign Of Weakness, Burna Boy opened up about a profound transformation, declaring that the “African Giant” version of himself is no more. According to him, that version was “killed” by the very people he once represented and fought for.
“The ‘African Giant’ Burna Boy died. His own people killed him. Then ‘Big 7’ was born to protect what was left of Burna Boy,” he wrote.
The post sheds light on an ongoing internal conflict between who he was and who he has become. While Big 7 serves as a protective shell, guarding what’s left of Burna’s emotional core, the “African Giant” still lingers—haunting him, a shadow of the man who once wore that title with pride.
“Burna Boy and Big 7 fight each other a lot because while Big 7 is only protecting the final and only existing piece of Burna Boy’s broken heart, the ‘African Giant’ still haunts Burna Boy,” he added
This emotional reflection marks a new chapter in Burna Boy’s artistic journey—one that may explore themes of pain, identity, and resilience. No Sign Of Weakness promises to be more than just music; it’s Burna Boy’s attempt to speak his truth, unfiltered and raw.
Whether fans are ready for this version of him or not, one thing is clear: Burna Boy is evolving, and he’s no longer afraid to let the world see his scars.
