Tyla brought Y2K fashion and Gen Z style as she hosted the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in vintage Cavalli. She made a fun entrance and even won an award for African excellence, voted by fans.
It was a big night for the South African pop star. Not only did she get slimed, but she also won Favourite Global Music Star. Hosting the show and winning an award made the night extra special.
The event took place in Santa Monica and was her first time hosting a big international show. She said it felt like a dream.
Years ago, she once auditioned for Nickelodeon now, she was the star. “It’s crazy how life works,” she said. “I hope I only get a little slime.” But she got more than a little.
Tyla started the show with a high-energy dance performance featuring summer hits. Benny Blanco played music, dancers filled the stage, and Smurfette even made a surprise appearance. The whole vibe was fun and full of joy.
Later in the show, when she was announced as the winner, she looked emotional. “This means so much to represent Africa and be chosen by all you amazing kids, wow,” she said. “Thank you for dancing with me. Africa to the world.”
She beat artists from Europe, the UK, and other regions. Tyla’s award collection is growing fast, she already has a Grammy, an MTV EMA, and many others.
