Get Ready With Me: Tems Open Up To Vogue France About Creativity, Inspiration And Staying Low-Key

Tems

Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems provided a personal look into her life and creative process in a recent feature with Vogue France.

During Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025, Tems talked about her inspiration and her efforts to keep a low profile as she got ready for the Jacquemus show.

She talked candidly about her creative process and the measures she takes to protect her privacy during this private session.

While her makeup artist was at work, Tems told a humorous story about going to Pilates lessons without a name.

She occasionally registers under several names to blend in with the crowd and escape detection. Her anonymity, meanwhile, is not always maintained.

She related a recent incident

Recently, last week, at the place I’ve been going to for years, someone came up to me and was like, ‘Hmmm, does anyone ever tell you that you look like a singer? Do you know the one I’m talking about?’ I was like, ‘Oh, Tems? Is it Tems? Oh, I get that all the time!’ Then I quickly ran to my class before she put two and two together. But I think they found out after. I had to take the back door to leave the class”

How she got inspiration

Tems explored the origins of her ideas. She underlined the value of remaining in the moment and using one’s own experiences.

She is able to produce music that has a profound emotional impact on her audience because to her method. She called her music “Spirit,” stating that it originates from a very pure place inside of her, in a prior interview with Teen Vogue.
