World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious road accident on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Makun area of Ogun State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the crash occurred at about 11:00 a.m., shortly before the Danco Filling Station, inward the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan axis of the expressway.
Joshua was reportedly travelling in a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are yet to be fully determined. The Lexus was said to be part of a two-vehicle convoy, alongside a Pajero SUV conveying members of his security team.
Eyewitnesses at the scene disclosed that four occupants were inside the Lexus at the time of the crash, with Joshua seated behind the driver. While the boxer reportedly sustained minor injuries, two other occupants of the vehicle were confirmed dead at the scene.

“It was a very serious crash,” an eyewitness said. “Joshua was seated behind the driver with another passenger beside him, while one person sat next to the driver. His security team was in the vehicle behind. We immediately mobilised to rescue the victims and flagged down passing vehicles for help before officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived.”
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived shortly after the incident to manage traffic and evacuate the victims.
Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, alongside the FRSC spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, stated that investigations into the crash are ongoing and that further details will be made public in due course.
