It’s been quite the month for Jennifer Lopez. Not only has she launched her own youth-boosting beauty line (and impossibly youthful promotional videos) to much praise, she also slayed at Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ Inauguration ceremony last week. However, the star has come under fire for her latest social media challenge, which has been dubbed completely ‘tone deaf’ by confused fans.

To mark the 20th anniversary of her iconic Love Don’t Cost a Thing single, which was recorded for her second studio album, J.Lo, in 2001, the star took to social media to recreate a memorable moment from the track’s music video on Twitter and encouraged her fans to do the same.

The main problem? In J-Lo’s video, she can be seen tossing her extortionately-priced jewellery, sunglasses and clothes onto a sun-drenched beach, before swiping away the camera. Fans were taken aback to see the star even threw her pricey bracelet into the sand. Obviously this little scene went down like an absolute lead balloon among her fans who are obviously fed up, stuck at home in a pandemic.

The #LoveDontCostAThingChallenge STARTS NOW!!!!,” Lopez captioned the video. “Can’t wait to see your renditions.”

The feedback was not exactly what J-Lo was hoping for as fans rushed to Twitter to hit back at the star.

Maam this is tone deaf,” wrote one confused fan. “Can’t nobody afford to be throwing their stuff on the beach.”

Another wrote: “Please stop, just be rich in private and leave us regular people ALONE.

I’m only allowed to leave my house for an hour of exercise and you want me to throw away my possessions on a beach?” added someone else.
