Actor Sues Tyler Perry for $260M, Alleges Sexual Harassment and Career Threats

Popular filmmaker Tyler Perry, the man behind Madea and one of the biggest names in Black entertainment, is currently facing a $260 million sexual harassment lawsuit. And the person accusing him? It’s none other than Derek Dixon, one of the stars of Perry’s own hit show, The Oval.

Let’s break it down.

According to reports, Derek Dixon filed a lawsuit last week in Los Angeles. He claims that Perry used his position of power to make inappropriate sexual advances towards him — and when he refused, his role on the show was allegedly threatened.

The whole thing started back in 2019 when they met at the grand opening of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. Dixon says things started off friendly, but soon turned uncomfortable. He alleged that Perry began sending suggestive messages, including one that read:

“What’s it going to take for you to have guiltless s_x”

From there, things allegedly escalated. Dixon claims Perry entered his guest room in 2020, climbed into bed with him, groped him, and even forcibly removed his clothing.

The lawsuit includes other alleged incidents too — like being cornered in a trailer and being constantly pressured in exchange for keeping his role on the show.

This isn’t just gossip — it’s serious.

Dixon says the experience left him with PTSD, depression, and made him walk away from a major role, losing over $400,000 in the process. Now he’s taking legal action, asking for $260 million in damages.

On the flip side, Perry’s lawyer has strongly denied the claims, calling them false and a money-grab. He says the lawsuit is a scam and that they’re ready to prove it.

What’s Next?

The case is still fresh, so no court date has been set yet. But one thing’s for sure — this will be a major conversation in the entertainment industry.

Not just because of the money involved, but because of the power dynamics and what it means for Black creators in positions of influence.

If the allegations turn out to be true, it’ll raise deep questions about abuse of power, even among creators who are seen as inspirational figures. But until then, it’s a matter for the courts.
