A couple who once made headlines for breaking the world record for the longest kiss have since gone their separate ways.
Ekkachai Tiranarat and his wife, Laksana, from Thailand, became Guinness World Record holders in 2013 after locking lips for an astonishing 58 hours and 35 minutes.
However, despite their shared achievement, their relationship eventually came to an end.
Speaking on the BBC Sounds podcast “Witness History,” Ekkachai shared that while they are no longer together, he remains proud of their record-breaking feat.

The record-breaking attempt was anything but romantic. Ekkachai revealed that the strict competition rules made the experience exhausting rather than enjoyable.
Among the unusual requirements;
- Couples had to keep their lips touching at all times, even during toilet breaks.
- They had to pass water between each other’s mouths rather than drinking normally.
- Participants were required to remain standing without any external support.
- No adult diapers or incontinence pads were allowed, making endurance even more difficult.
Reflecting on the challenge, Ekkachai said, “I felt like I was going to faint. Some spectators even handed me an inhaler to help me through it.”

A Second Victory Before Their Split
Ekkachai and Laksana were no strangers to endurance kissing competitions. Before their 2013 record, they had already secured the title once in 2011, when they lasted 46 hours and 24 minutes.
In their final record-breaking attempt, the couple pushed through intense fatigue, with Ekkachai recalling that “the happiness was overclouded by how tired I was. I just wanted to rest and drink.”

Despite their separation, Ekkachai chooses to look back on their shared experience positively, saying, “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I try to remember the good memories we created together.”
Their record still stands today, a testament to their perseverance—even if their love story didn’t last forever.
