The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again adjusted the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, this time from ₦865 to ₦992 per liter.
The new rate reportedly took effect on Sunday, catching many motorists off guard and sparking mixed reactions nationwide.
Confusion at Fuel Stations
As of the time of this report, NNPCL has yet to release an official statement explaining the reason behind the sudden price hike. However, attendants at several NNPC retail outlets confirmed receiving directives to update their meters to the new rate.
At the NNPC Mega Station along Ogunusi Road, Ojodu Berger (Lagos), attendants were seen recalibrating their pumps to reflect the ₦992 price. Many motorists, unaware of the new rate, expressed frustration and disbelief at the steep increase.
Further checks at NNPC outlets in Ibafo, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, showed some stations still displaying the old ₦875 price — but none were dispensing fuel at the time. Similar scenes played out in parts of Lagos and Ogun States, where many NNPC stations remained shut.
Nigerians React to the New Petrol Price
The latest adjustment has stirred fresh concerns about another wave of hardship for Nigerians, as transport fares and the cost of goods are expected to rise again.
Many citizens are now calling on the federal government and NNPCL to clarify the reasons behind the frequent price changes and address the ongoing fuel supply challenges affecting daily life and business operations.
