Starting Your Wedding Planning: When to Begin

The wedding planning process can be lengthy and involved, so it’s important to start early. Aim to start planning as soon as you get engaged, which will give you plenty of time to book venues and vendors, send out save-the-dates and invitations, and plan your rehearsal dinner and wedding rehearsal.

Booking Your Venue and Vendors: The Earlier, the Better

Popular venues and high-demand vendors can book up quickly, so it’s crucial to secure your choices as early as possible.

Save-the-Dates and Invitations: Timing is Key

Save-the-dates should be sent out 6–8 months before the wedding, especially if you’re planning a destination wedding or have a lot of out-of-town guests. Invitations should be sent out 8–10 weeks before the wedding, giving guests enough time to RSVP and you enough time to finalize your headcount.

Rehearsal Dinner and Wedding Rehearsal: Final Touches

The rehearsal dinner is typically held the night before the wedding and is a great opportunity to get your wedding party acquainted and run through the ceremony. This is also the time to distribute gifts to your wedding party, parents, and any other VIPs.

The wedding rehearsal, on the other hand, can be held any time in the week leading up to the wedding, depending on the schedules of your wedding party.

Honeymoon Planning: Timing Options

Traditionally, couples take their honeymoon immediately after the wedding, often leaving for their destination the day after the wedding. However, this is not always feasible, especially if you are planning a destination wedding or need time to recover from the festivities.

In this case, consider delaying your honeymoon by a few weeks or even months to give yourself a chance to decompress and savour the memories of your special day.

By following this timeline, you will be well on your way to a seamless and stress-free wedding planning experience.
