Inside Adekunle Gold’s New Album‘Fuji’: 5 Songs You Need to Hear First

Let me tell you, the first time I heard that Adekunle Gold was dropping an album named ‘FUJI‘, I was excited but also filled with a level of doubt. So I was wondering if this dude would still push the envelope on Afrobeats, right? Was it going to be spot on with the Fuji vibe rather than seeming like a wake up call? I must say that I was really grinning from ear to ear by the time I hit play on the album. So let’s talk about the 5 songs you can listen to on Adekunle Gold’s new album.

Contents
  • Don Corleone
  • Many People
  • Believe
  • Love Is An Action
  • Only God Can Save Me featuring Davido

Don Corleone

This one starts off like a BOSS. Adekunle Gold is all Fuji with his tungba drums, horns burning all the way. But the combination of the vibe is its own thing, the personal feeling, you know, somewhat akin to having icing on the cake with sweet sound effects of Simi at the back. This is what the Godfather would sound like turning around with triumph, a thing of unstoppable energy. If you would love music that would drive you all day long. It is nothing but absolute energy which I replayed at once for quite some time.

Many People

Let’s talk about a throwback moment. AG sampled Yinka Ayefele on this one, making us feel sentimental over the hills and valleys of life. We get those Fuji drum style tempo chants, but modern additions break the track from the chains of datedness. To me, ‘Many Men’ felt like he’s speaking to me about faith and the past with haters on his back or success. Purely relatable and very well produced. If you’ve been through the grind, this music is screaming your truth.

Believe

And here comes this 6lack collab, so smooth it floats like your perfumed bubble bath. It’s a Fuji Amapiano fusion—never should be, yet weirdly graceful, with an extra long bass under Fuji percussion in undulating grooves. Here, faith and perseverance somewhat live on in the verses, as AG’s beautiful voice carries the effort of everything on top. Honestly, every chill driving on that encouragement for a late night or get out of bed tune, one you would jam to not knowing you needed it. The song grew on me like the music itself as 6lack’s voice keys in with that extra soul.

Love Is An Action

This track’s AG’s all about romance and realism. Really, this is the dance of younger Fuji, deep and solid on some really raw attitudes with talking drums and call and response aesthetics, made into some love anthem. What does he sing? Well, we must act to show our love, not just saying stuff. I so want that track for the personality it gives a window into while dispensing advice about love. A walk down memory lane, so catchy, untrained, and raining with good vibes recalling those true love situations of mine. It is a very sweet and accurate track for a listener who might feel tight emotions. Simple, but in a bigger way.

Only God Can Save Me featuring Davido

How about dropping down that perfect track featuring Davido to close the show? The straight shot is a bomb for celebrity fights packed in explosive Fuji growl and bass and dance to the tasteful hooks. Davido’s OBO or whatever it means competes with the track to be a heart thumper that sounds like celebrating success in some of the darkest stages of fame. Not bleak though, more victorious, maybe, screaming against all odds that they have made it. The chemistry between them is just electric, and it brought me to my feet. Be ready to start dancing because this track will make any sane and able person in the world move.
