The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following reports that popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has died at the age of 40.
According to multiple reports published on Tuesday, the actor reportedly passed away after battling a prolonged illness. Colleagues and close friends in the movie industry have already begun paying emotional tributes to the late actor across social media.
Actress Funke Akindele reacted emotionally to the heartbreaking news, writing that she had tried reaching out to him one more time before his passing. Actor Bolanle Ninalowo also mourned the late movie star, praying for strength for his family and loved ones.
Alex Ekubo, born Alex Ekubo-Okwaraeke, was one of Nollywood’s most recognizable faces. He rose to prominence after emerging as the first runner-up at the Mr Nigeria 2010 competition before building a successful acting career that spanned over a decade.
The actor starred in several popular Nollywood productions including Weekend Getaway, Bling Lagosians, A Sunday Affair, The Blood Covenant, and Afamefuna: An Nwa Boi Story. His charm, fashion sense, and on-screen presence made him a fan favorite both in Nigeria and across Africa.
