To Kill A Monkey Is One Nollywood Series That Doesn’t Need Promotion — Here’s Why

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, or somehow manage to stay completely untouched by Nollywood’s magic, To Kill A Monkey is one name that shouldn’t sound foreign to you.

This breakout Nollywood series, created and produced by the ever-iconic Kemi Adetiba, didn’t ask for permission. To Kill A Monkey just showed up and took its seat at the table, and seamlessly grabbed our attention and interest to watch.

With eight heavy-hitting episodes and an average runtime of nearly an hour each, To Kill A Monkey didn’t need a billboard promotion, a countdown to release date, or even influencers parade to sell itself. The moment it dropped, the streets caught fire. Think chaos, but in a good way.

Why Everyone’s Obsessed With To Kill A Monkey

This series is not just one of those “let’s see how it goes” shows. One episode in and you’re sucked into a story so intense, so layered, you can’t help but keep going. You blink and you’re five episodes deep, arguing about plot twists on X (formerly Twitter), and plotting violence against Efemini, who is now the most widely hated character that everyone’s been ranting about online.

Content creators didn’t wait for collaboration emails. From Veekee James, who dropped a spot-on lip-sync of a key scene, to TikTokers recreating dialogues with precise accuracy, To Kill A Monkey became the moment.

Even everyday viewers have turned Instagram Stories into full-blown commentary zones. Emotional reactions, wild predictions, memes. All of it, flooding timelines without any paid promo behind it.

Honest Reactions You Can’t Ignore

Here are some reviews I just had to highlight:

To Kill A Monkey Reviews From X (formerly twitter) Users

They’re raw, relatable, and all saying one thing — To Kill A Monkey is not just worth it, it’s personal now, and the soundtracks? They are too good and fit all scenes perfectly.

What Makes To Kill A Monkey A Nollywood Sensation?

Besides the star-studded cast (one of whom is my favourite character, Lilian Afegbai) and top-tier direction, it’s the writing. The tension is felt, I had goosebumps envelope my skin at some point, the dialogue bites, and the pacing doesn’t waste your time. You feel things. You argue with the screen. You start taking sides like you’re in the story yourself.

And honestly, when you see Nigerians — unprovoked and surprisingly unpaid — gathering online to praise a Nollywood production this passionately? That’s no small feat.

I mean, how often do you see us collectively say, “No, this was actually well done”?
